JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - The Providence College track team competed in the second day of the NCAA First Round on Thursday, May 27 in Jacksonville, Fla.
Abbey Wheeler (Elmira, N.Y.),
Maria Coffin (Annapolis, Md.), and
Orla O'Connor (Waterford, Ireland) competed in the 10,000 meter semifinals. To qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championship finals the competitors must place top-twelve in their heat.
Wheeler finished second in the 10,000 meter semifinals in a time of 33:18.34, automatically qualifying for the final round of the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oreg. On June 9-12. This will be Wheeler's third time qualifying for the championships. Coffin finished in fifteenth place, in 34:16.80, missing qualification by just seven seconds. O'Connor placed 38
th (35:47.63), after going into meet ranked 46
th.
