Men’s Lacrosse Falls to RV/RV Villanova, 13-6

The Friars return to action on April 10 against the St. John’s Red Storm at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. at 6:00 p.m.

Villanova, Pa.- The Providence College men's lacrosse team fell to the RV/RV Villanova Wildcats, 13-6, on Saturday, April 3 at Villanova Stadium in Villanova, Pa. The Friars drop to 3-6 overall, 2-5 in BIG EAST play. The Wildcats improve to 4-2 overall, 4-2 in BIG EAST play.
 
First Quarter:
-Villanova scored the first four goals of the game.
-Michael Hughes (Andover, Mass.) tallied the first Friar goal of the game with 3:15 remaining 
(4-1). Chris Cusolito (Melrose, Mass.) was credited with the assist.
-The Wildcats scored once more before the end of the quarter. Villanova led, 5-1 after one.

Second Quarter:
-The Wildcats tallied the first goal of the quarter with 9:22 left in the quarter. The Wildcats led, 6-1.
-Evan McGreen (Narragansett, R.I.) recorded his first goal of the game, seventh of the season with 5:18 remaining (6-2).
-Villanova led, 6-2 at halftime.
-Providence went 7-10 from the 'X' in the first half.
-Villanova caused seven turnovers in the first half. Providence caused two turnovers.
 
Third Quarter:
-Villanova's Matt Campbell scored the first goal of the second half with 14:08 remaining (7-2).
-Dan Axelson (Cohasset, Mass.) scored the lone Friar goal in the quarter with 11:46 left in the quarter (7-3).
-The Wildcats tallied one more goal before the end of the quarter. The Wildcats led, 8-3, after three quarters.
 
Fourth Quarter:
-Villanova scored first-straight goals in the quarter to push its lead to eight (12-3).
-Ryan Nawrocki (Smithtown, N.Y.) found Tim Hinrichs (Amherst, N.H.) for his twelfth goal of the season with 6:14 left to play. The Friars trailed, 12-4. 
-Villanova's Keegan Khan scored with 3:57 remaining to push the Wildcats' lead to nine (13-4).
-Nawrocki picked up a groundball and scored with nine seconds remaining (13-5).
-Nick Shaw (Canton, Mass.) scored as time expired (13-6).
-Villanova won, 13-6.
 
Game Notes:
 -Providence had six different goal scorers on the day.
-Nawrocki registered his fifth multi-point game of the season on one goal and one assist.
-The Wildcats lead the all-time series, 9-5.

What's Next: The Friars return home to take on the St. John's Red Storm on Saturday, April 10 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. Face-off is set for 6:00 p.m. Prior to the game, the program will honor its current senior class, in addition to the class of 2020, whom were unable to participate in a senior ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nine of last year's 12 seniors are current members of the team as graduate students. The three members of the 2020 class who are no longer with the program will be part of the ceremony virtually.
