Abbey Wheeler Set To Compete At NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships

Wheeler’s 5,000-meter race takes place at 9:00 p.m. ET on Friday, March 12 in Fayetteville, Ark. .

Providence, R.I. – Providence College's indoor track runner Abbey Wheeler travels to the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark to compete in the 5,000-meter at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Wheeler's race is set for 9:05 p.m. ET on Friday, March 12. Live championship coverage will be streamed on ESPN3. Additional details on times of the live ESPN3 coverage will be forthcoming. A re-air of the championship will take place starting at 9 p.m. Eastern time Sunday, March 14 on ESPNU. 
 
Wheeler is seeded eighth in the 5,000-meter. Wheeler's 5,000-meter time (15:50) ranks top-10 in the nation. Wheeler's 15:50 came at the JDL Camel City Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C., where she won the 5,000-meter. 
 
Last week, Wheeler was named United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Northeast Region Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year for the 2020 indoor track and field season. This is the second consecutive year Wheeler has earned the honor. The regional award is determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches. 
 
Wheeler is a two time All-American (2018 Outdoor 5,000-meter, 2019 Outdoor 5,000-meter), a two time BIG EAST Champion (2020 Indoor 3,000-meter, 2020 Indoor 5,000-meter) and a two time ECAC Champion (2018 Indoor 3,000-meter, 2020 Cross Country).
