Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track Set To Compete At The BIG EAST Championships

The BIG EAST Championships are scheduled for March 1-2 in Geneva, Ohio.
PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College men's and women's indoor track teams will travel to Geneva, Ohio for the BIG EAST Indoor Track Championships on Sunday, Mar. 1 through Monday, Mar. 2. The two-day event will be held at SPIRE Institute and be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network. Day one of the meet will begin at 11:45 a.m. and the final day will begin at 9:45 a.m.
Headlining the Friar women will be Abbey Wheeler (Elmira, N.Y.) in the 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter run. Wheeler ran a personal-best 9:08.14 in the 3,000-meters on Sunday, Feb. 15 at the Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass. Wheeler's 3,000-meter time currently ranks 14th overall in the NCAA and first in the BIG EAST by 17 seconds. Wheeler's 5,000-meter time of 15:40.67 ranks first in the BIG EAST by 27 seconds and 11th in the NCAA.
For the men, Michael O'Leary (St. James, N.Y.) will be competing in the 3,000-meter event. Marcelo Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) will race in the 5,000-meter. Rocha ranks fifth in the BIG EAST with a time of 14:19.89.
