PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College men's lacrosse team defeated Brown in the Ocean State Cup, 13-12, in overtime on Feb. 29 at Stevenson-Pincince Field in Providence, R.I.
Sean Leahey (Cranford, N.J.) scored the game-winning goal for the Friars in a man-up situation with 1:16 left in overtime to seal the victory. Providence has claimed the Ocean State Cup Champions for the second time in three years. The Friars improved to 4-1 on the season and the Bears dropped to 2-2 on the year.
FIRST QUARTER:
• Matt Grillo (Setauket, N.Y.) got the scoring started with 12:29 remaining after finishing a pass from Leahey.
• With 9:13 left, Grillo found the back of the net for his second goal of the game.
• Brown responded with one goal before the end of the quarter and Providence held a 2-1 advantage after the first 15 minutes of action.

Toby Burgdorf (Westfield, N.J.) recorded five saves in the quarter.
SECOND QUARTER:
• Brown scored the first two goals of the quarter to take a 3-2 lead.

Tim Hinrichs (Amherst, N.H.) found the back of the net for Providence with 10:40 remaining to tie the game, 3-3.
Ryan Nawrocki (Smithtown, N.Y.) assisted the goal.
• Nine seconds later,
Mike O'Grady (Milton, Mass.) fired a shot by Brown's Phil Goss, giving Providence a two-goal advantage.

Evan McGreen (Narragansett, R.I.) and Hinrichs scored the next two goals for Providence to cap a run of four-consecutive goals. Nawrocki assisted on Hinrichs' goal for the second time.
• Leahey scored a goal with :13 seconds left in the half to regain the Friars' three-goal and Providence maintained its 7-4 lead at halftime.
• The Friars outshot the Bears, 23-14.
THIRD QUARTER:
• Providence scored three-unanswered goals to begin the half.
John Hoffman (Smithtown, N.Y.), Leahey and
Michael Hughes (Andover, Mass.) all found the back of the net. Hinrichs assisted on Leahey's goal and Hoffman fed Hughes for the first goal of his career.
• Brown scored midway through the quarter to cut the deficit to five, 10-5.
• Burgdorf made seven saves in the quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER:
• Brown erased a five-goal deficit in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Friars, 7-2, in the final frame.
• In a man-up opportunity,
Dan Axelson (Cohasset, Mass.) finished a Leahey feed for a Friars goal.
• Grillo solidified his fourth hat-trick of the season with a goal in the fourth.
• Brown outshot Providence 16-9 in the quarter and tied the game with 33-seconds left in regulation (12-12).
• The Bears scored three-straight goals in the final 2:27 of the game to force overtime.
OVERTIME:
• Providence capitalized in a man-up opportunity to win the 2020 Ocean State Cup. Hinrichs found Leahey, who found the back of the net to win it for Providence, 13-12.
GAME NOTES:
• Providence College won the 2020 Ocean State Cup Champions after defeating Bryant (16-9) and Brown (13-12 OT).
• Saturday's win over Brown marked just the second victory for Providence over the Bears all-time.
• Burgdorf collected a career-high 16 saves on the day.
• Leahey notched his second hat-trick of the season. Leahey tied his career-high in goals (three) and points (five).
• Grillo tallied his fourth hat-trick of the season in just five games.
• Hinrichs chipped in with a team-best three assists and one goal on the day.
• Providence's 13 goals against the Bears mark a single-game best for the Friars during the all-time series.
