PHILADELPHIA, PA.- The Providence College men's lacrosse team fell to the Saint Joseph's Hawks, 10-8, on Saturday, Feb. 22 in Philadelphia, Pa. The Friars fall to 3-1 on the season and the Hawks improve to 3-1.
"Despite a tough day facing off, we had ample opportunities to tie the game in the fourth quarter, but we did not execute." Providence College head coach
Chris Gabrielli said. "Our early game breakdowns haunted us, but I was proud of our fight and poise to battle back. We tried a lot of new things today in an attempt to counter their elite face-off ability, We hope this in-game experience will help us moving forward."
FIRST QUARTER:
• Saint Joseph's jumped out to a 3-0 lead halfway through the quarter.

Matt Grillo (Setauket, N.J.) to put the Friars on the board with 4:30 remaining.

Dan Axelson (Cohasset, Mass.) scored his first goal of the day late in the quarter.
Tim Hinrichs (Amherst, N.H.) assisted Axelson on the goal.
• Saint Joseph's led, 3-2, after one quarter.
SECOND QUARTER:
• Saint Joseph's scored three unanswered goals to push its lead to 6-2.
• Providence responded with finding the back of the net twice before the half. Axelson scored on a man-up opportunity for his second goal of the day and
John Hoffman (Smithtown, N.Y.) scored with just under a minute remaining. Axelson was assisted by
Sean Leahey (Cranford, N.J.).
• Saint Joseph's held a 6-4 lead at half.
• Saint Joseph's had a 13-8 advantage with shots on goal and won 11-12 face-offs.
THIRD QUARTER:
• Saint Joseph's outscored Providence, 3-2 in the quarter.
• Hoffman scored an unassisted goal and Leahey found Nawrocki for Friar goals in the period.
• The Hawks led, 9-6, after three.
• Saint Joseph's outshot Providence, 8-7, in the quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER:
• Axelson scored his third goal of the day in another man-up opportunity with 9:33 remaining to pull the Friars within two. Leahey assisted on his third goal of the day.
• Providence came within one with 4:56 left when Nawrocki found the back of the net.
• Saint Joseph's scored a goal with eight seconds left to make the differential two.
• Saint Joseph's won, 10-8.
GAME NOTES:
• Providence had three players (Axelson, Leahey, Nawrocki) with a team-high three points.
• Axelson tallied his first hat-trick of the season, third of his career.
• Nawrocki chipped in with two goals and one assist.
• Leahey had a game-high three assists.
• Saint Joseph's held a 21-16 advantage with shots on goal.
