WORCESTER, MASS. – No. 9 Providence College women's hockey team defeated the Holy Cross Crusaders, 4-1, in the Hart Center on Saturday, Dec. 5. The Friars netted two in the first to gain the lead followed by two unanswered goals by Sara Hjalmarrson (Bankeryd, Sweden) in the second and third periods. Providence improves to 5-0-1 on the season in their second consecutive weekend series sweep.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
Freshman
Maddy Coene (Clayton, N.Y.) put the Friars on the board 6:19 into the first period. Coene, unassisted, skated into the offensive zone and found the back of the net for her second goal of her collegiate career.
Holy Cross responded halfway through the period with a goal from Kailey Langefels. Langefels was assisted by Sommer Ross and Bryn Saarela.
Caroline Peterson (East Falmouth, Mass.) regained the lead with a goal assisted by freshmen
Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and
Claire Tyo (Massena, N.Y.).
Sara Hjalmarrson (Bankeryd, Sweden) added to the Friars' lead with a goal early in the middle frame on the power play. Hjalmarrson was assisted by Tyo, her second assist of the night.
Hjalmarrson scored her second goal of the night late in the final period to further increase Providence's lead. Hjalmarrson scored on the power play with an assist from Peterson.
Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) sealed the win with 19 saves, helping the team to improve to 5-0-1 on the season.

Providence is in action next with a home-and-home series against the University of Connecticut. PC will travel to Storrs, Conn. for game one on Friday, December 11, with the Huskies coming to Providence to finish the series on Saturday, December 12 at 3:00 p.m.
