PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College senior guard
Chanell Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday, Dec. 21. It marks the first weekly league honors of the 2020-21 season for Williams, and the third time she has been selected to the honor roll during her career.
In the Friars' lone game last week, Williams led all scorers with a season-high 20 points to help Providence defeat St. John's, 76-53, on Dec. 19 in Providence, R.I. She shot 7-12 from the field, including 4-6 from beyond the three-point arc. She also dished three assists and collected two rebounds and two steals. She did not commit a turnover during her 28 minutes on the floor.
Through eight games this season, Williams is averaging 9.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.50 steals per game. She's shooting a blistering .647 from three-point territory, having connected on 11-of-17 attempts. She also is 8-8 from the foul line on the year.
The Friars will return to action on Dec. 31 against Xavier. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. and the game will be played at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. Providence is 4-4 overall on the season, including a 2-1 mark in BIG EAST play.
