Nick Hatzipetrakos recorded a season-high five goals and eight points.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team fell to the Georgetown Hoyas, 17-15, in BIG EAST play on Saturday, April 6 in Providence, R.I. Nick Hatzipetrakos (Syosset, N.Y.) recorded a season-high five goals and eight points, but the Friars fell to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in league play.

1st Quarter: The Friars got off to a quick start, as Brendan Kearns (Wantagh, N.Y.) scored back-to-back goals on his first two shots of the game. His first beat McElroy low and he then ripped a shot low-to-high to make it 2-0. Nick Hatzipetrakos increased the lead to 3-0 on a goal with 8:57 remaining in the quarter. Georgetown responded with a goal from Patrick Aslanian, but the Friars regained a three-goal lead on a strike from Evan McGreen (Naragansett, R.I.). Kevin McCordic (Medfield, Mass.) picked up his second assist of the quarter on McGreen's goal. The Hoyas' long pole Gibson Smith notched a goal with just five seconds left to cut the Friars' lead to 4-2.

2nd Quarter: Neither team found the back of the next in the opening five minutes of the quarter. Providence killed a 30-second penalty to maintain its lead before Georgetown notched two-straight goals to tie the game at 4-4. The Friars responded, scoring five out of the quarter's next six goals. Dan Axelson (Cohasset, Mass.), Kevin McCordic and Nick Shaw (Canton, Mass.) all scored in the final three minutes to give the Friars their largest lead of the game. Shaw's goal came with five seconds remaining on the clock and made the score 9-5 at halftime.

3rd Quarter: The Hoyas tallied the first two goals of the third quarter. Daniel Bucaro, the BIG EAST leader in goals, scored his second of the game to make it 9-7. Hatzipetrakos responded with his third goal of the game before Georgetown notched two more goals, bringing the score within one (10-9). Matt Grillo (Setauket, N.Y.) then got on the scoresheet, before Georgetown rattled off four-straight tallies to take a 13-11 lead.

4th Quarter: Georgetown extended its run to 9-2, scoring 1:11 into the fourth. Hatzipetrakos snapped a five-goal streak for the Hoyas, scoring his fourth of the game just 46 seconds later. Dylan Watson increased the Hoyas' lead back to three goals (15-12) by tallying his third of the day. Hatzipetrakos scored his fifth of the game in response, but the Hoyas added insurance with two more goals (17-13). Providence did not go away, as goals from Kearns and Tim Hinrichs (Amerst, N.H.) in the final two minutes closed the gap.

Game Notes:
  • Nick Hatzipetrakos has had a hat trick or better in eight of 11 games this season. He recorded a season-high five goals this afternoon.
  • Tim Hinrichs notched his second-consecutive two-goal game. He had four total points and has now had 3+ points in four games this season.
  • Kevin McCordic recorded a season-high three points on a goal and two assists. He's scored man-up goals in each of the last two games.
  • Brendan Kearns' three goals pushed him to 87 career goals, with 20 of those coming this season.
  • Tate Boyce finished the game with 15 saves for Providence. It was his fourth performance of the season with 15+ stops.
  • Colin Keating (Ridgewood, N.J.) took a majority of the Friars' face-offs, going 17-for-30 (.567) at the 'X.'
  • The Friars outscored Georgetown 9-5 in the first half, but the Hoyas responded by outscoring Providence 10-3 in the second.
  • Providence falls to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in BIG EAST action. The Hoyas improve to 8-3 overall and 1-2 in league play.
