WORCESTER, Mass. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team defeated the Holy Cross Crusaders by a score of 12-5 on Saturday, Feb. 9 at Kuzniewski Field.
1st Quarter: Holy Cross jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 1:08 of play. 
Brendan Kearns (Wantagh, N.Y.) then got the Friars on the board at the 12:38 mark. He was assisted by 
Nick Shaw (Canton, Mass.). Back-and-forth play continued until 
Matt Grillo (Setauket, N.Y.) tied things up at 9:40 of the first. 
Tim Hinrichs (Amherst, N.H.) assisted Grillo's second-career goal. Each team had a 30-second extra-man opportunity, but neither converted. Providence took the lead on a Kearns' goal with one minute remaining. Grillo picked up the assist. Holy Cross tied things up at 3-3 with 18 seconds left on the clock. The Crusaders had three different goal scorers in the quarter.
2nd Quarter: The Friars shutout the Crusaders in the second quarter and tacked on two goals to head to the locker room with a 5-3 lead. 
Matt Grillo and 
Nick Hatzipetrakos (Syosset, N.Y.) notched the Friars' tallies. Grillo's goal came at the 8:54 mark, while Hatzipetrakos' tally, which Grillo assisted, was at 1:22.
3rd Quarter: Providence captured control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring Holy Cross 5-1. Hatzipetrakos scored three of the five goals in the quarter. 
Joseph McHale (Bernardsville, N.J.) and 
Jake Antonucci (Westwood, Mass.) added the other scores. Providence scored all five goals before Holy Cross notched one with just 10 seconds remaining.
4th Quarter: 
Brendan Kearns and 
Evan McGreen (Narragansett, R.I.) scored fourth quarter goals to secure the victory. Holy Cross' Kevin Kodzis became the fifth Crusader to score in the game during the final quarter. 
Tate Boyce (Matthews, N.C.) made four of his 10 total saves in the final stanza.
Game Notes:
	- Nine different Friars recorded points in the game. Six different players scored goals.
- Freshman Matt Grillo finished with two goals and three assists for a team-high five points.
- Junior Nick Hatzipetrakos had a team-high four goals. He's scored 22 goals in each of the last two seasons for the Friars.
- Brendan Kearns collected four points on three goals and one assist.
- Nick Shaw was the final Friar with a multi-point performance, as he chipped in two assists.
- The Friars improve to 13-17 all-time against Holy Cross and have now won four-consecutive contests against the Crusaders.
- Providence is now 1-1 on the young season. Holy Cross falls to 0-1.
