Men’s Lacrosse Picks Up 14-5 Win At Saint Joseph’s

PHILALPHIA, Pa. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team downed the Saint Joseph's Hawks, 14-5, on Saturday, Feb. 23 in Philadelphia, Pa. Providence improved its record to 2-2, while the Hawks fell to 2-1 on the season.

1st Quarter: The Friars jumped out to a 4-0 lead with the four goals coming in a three-minute span. Nick Shaw (Canton, Mass.), Joseph McHale (Bernardsville, N.J.), Nick Hatzipetrakos (Syosset, N.Y.) and Luke O'Grady (Wayne, Pa.) were the goal scorers. O'Grady's tally, which was the first of his career, came on a man-up opportunity. The Hawks got a goal back with 2:18 remaining in the quarter. Tate Boyce (Matthews, N.C.) had a strong quarter in net, posting 10 saves.

2nd Quarter: Providence added two goals in the second quarter, while the Hawks were only able to score one. Brendan Kearns (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Matt Grillo (Setauket, N.Y.) notched the second-quarter tallies to help send Providence to the locker room with a 6-2 advantage.

3rd Quarter: The Friars came out strong in the third quarter, outscoring the Hawks 5-0 in the frame. Hatzipetrakos, Grillo, Dan Axelson (Cohasset, Mass.) and Kearns scored even-strength goals, before Grillo added a man-up tally to make it 11-2.

4th Quarter: The fourth quarter proved to be the most even, with each team posting three goals. Hatzipetrakos, Tim Hinrichs (Amherst, N.H.) and Ryan Zimmerman (Syracuse, N.Y.) added the fourth-quarter goals. Zimmerman's came in a man-down situation.

Game Notes:
  • Freshman Matt Grillo finished with seven points in the game. He notched three goals and added four assists.
  • Senior goalkeeper Tate Boyce made 27 saves in the game, allowing a season-low five goals.
  • Nick Hatzipetrakos recorded his third-consecutive hat trick. He now has 10 goals in the last three games.
  • Tim Hinrichs finished with four points on one goal and three assists.
  • Eight different Friars scored goals, while 10 different players recorded points.
  • The Friars went 2-for-4 on EMO's in the game. They also limited the Hawks to a 1-for-7 EMO mark
