PROVIDENCE, R.I.– Providence College women's basketball player
Mary Baskerville (Enfield, Conn.) was named BIG EAST Conference Freshman of the Week on Jan. 7.  She earned the honor for the second time this season, having previously been named Freshman of the Week on Dec. 24.

Baskerville averaged 8.7 points and a team-best 7.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocked shots for the Friars last week. Â She shot a team-high .667 from the floor, as she converted 12 of her 18 field-goal attempts. Â She tallied 17 points (one point off her career high), seven rebounds and two blocked shots in 14 minutes of action against No. 19/20 DePaul. Â She followed with a team-high nine rebounds against Georgetown, and closed the week with seven points, six boards and one blocked shot in the Friars' first victory over Villanova since 2014. Â Baskerville played a critical role for the Friars in the decisive fourth quarter, as she recorded five points and three rebounds, while hitting each of her two attempts from the field.

Through 16 games, the rookie is averaging 7.8 points and a team-best 6.8 rebounds and 1.4 blocked shots per game.  She also leads the squad in field-goal percentage, shooting the ball at a .542 clip (52-96).

Providence College (9-7, 1-3 BIG EAST) returns to action on Friday, Jan. 11 against St. John's.  The game will be played at Carnesecca Arena in Queens, N.Y. and is scheduled to tip-off at 11:00 a.m.
