Jovana Nogic Named To Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Watch List

Senior guard has connected on 42-percent of her three-point attempts during her career.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.– Providence College senior guard Jovana Nogic (Belgrade, Serbia) has been named to the 20-player watch list for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, which is presented annually to the top shooting guard in women's NCAA Division I college basketball.  The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (WBCA) announced its initial list of candidates for the award on Oct. 23.
 
In three seasons at Providence College Nogic has connected on 230 of her 557 attempts from beyond the arc, for a career three-point shooting percentage of 0.418.  She has hit more than 50 three pointers in each of her three seasons with the program, including a single-season school record of 91 triples in 2016-17.  
 
Nogic is within reach of Friars' career record for three point makes, currently held by Julie Wheeler '98.  Wheeler made 252 three pointers during her career at Providence College (1994-98).  Nogic has hit three-or-more three-point buckets in 44 games, including 16 games with five-or-more.  She has hit a single-game career best of seven threes in two games as a Friar vs. Savannah State (11/21/17) and Marquette (1/27/17).
 
Last season, Nogic ranked second in the BIG EAST in three-point makes (87) and fourth in three-point field-goal percentage (.410, 87-212).  She also led the conference in free-throw percentage, having knocked down 86 of her 91 attempts from the charity stripe (0.945). Nogic has shot an impressive 92.3-percent from the foul line during her career (144-156).
 
Nogic has averaged 13.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 90 career games. Last season, she averaged 17.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.0 steal per game.  Her 17.1 points per contest ranked third in the league in overall scoring, and she also ranked fifth in scoring during BIG EAST regular-season play (15.7 ppg).
 
Nogic has recorded 62 double-digit scoring games, including 18 games with 20 points or more.  On Nov. 14, 2017, she hit for a career high 31 points against Northeastern.
 
Nogic became the 34thplayer in program history to reach the 1,000-point career milestone at Providence College.  She enters the 2018-19 campaign ranked 18thall-time in career scoring with 1,240 points.  
 
Nogic was named All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention at the conclusion of the 2016-17 season. 
 
The SelectionCommittee for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award is composed of top women's college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, sports information directors andHall of Famers. By mid-February, the watch list of 20 players for the 2019 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award will be narrowed to just 10. In March, five finalists will be presented to Ms. Drysdale and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. Fans will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite finalist at www.hoophallawards.com.
 
Thewinnerofthe2019 Ann Meyers DrysdaleAwardwill be revealed on an ESPN platform during the 2019 Women's Final Four in Tampa, Florida. Additional awards being presented and recognized at the WBCA Convention include the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard Award, the Cheryl Miller Small Forward Award, the Katrina McClain Power Forward Award, and the Lisa Leslie Center Award. Also being awarded is the Wade Trophy, the sport's oldest and most prestigious national player of the year award which is presented annually by the WBCA's community of coaches to the best player in college women's basketball.
 
Last season,Victoria Vivians of Mississippi State was named the inaugural winner of the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award.

Providence College kicks off the season with an exhibition game against Assumption College on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 1:00 p.m. in Providence, R.I.  The Friars will officially open the 2018-19 slate against Penn State on Thursday, Nov. 8 in University Park, Pa.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
