Softball Hosts Fairfield In Home Opener

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team is set to play Fairfield University in the Friars' home opener at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29 at Glay Field.

The Friars currently hold a 12-14 (0-2 BIG EAST) record after traveling to Creighton to open BIG EAST play. In Omaha, Neb. the Friars were defeated in two games on March 23. Junior Nicole Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.) paced the Friars last week batting .600, including a 3-for-3, four-RBI outing in the second game of the series, to earn a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.

Overall, Providence is led by freshman Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) with a .473 batting average, 35 hits, and a .527 slugging percentage. Senior Kiki Baldassari (Denville, N.J.) has batted .382, has 34 hits, and 12 RBI. Lundstrom leads the Friars in RBI with 23 and has had two home runs this season.

Freshman Megan McCune (Orange, Calif.) has made 11 appearances on the mound and has a team-best ERA of 2.76. In 45.2 innings pitched she has had 37 strikeouts and has allowed 44 hits.

SCOUTING FAIRFIELD: The Stags are currently 9-10 on the season and it will be the second meeting between Providence and Fairfield in 2016. Earlier this season (March 19), the Friars defeated the Stags, 4-2, in the Stony Brook Invitational in Stony Brook, N.Y.

Fairfield is led by Alisha Marshall who has a team-best .432 batting average. Lauren Filicia leads the Stags in hits with 23 and is batting .359. Destinee Pallotto has made 12 appearances and nine starts on the mound for Fairfield and holds a 3.52 ERA. She has struck out 42 batters in 59.2 innings pitched.
