The Providence College women's soccer team was defeated, 2-0, in their BIG EAST schedule opener by Connecticut on Friday, September 18. The Friars are now 4-3-1 overall and 0-1 in BIG EAST play. The Huskies improve to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Connecticut would score in the 16th minute off a ball that was played into the box from about 40 yards out by Brittany Taylor. Jessica Diakun was able to run onto the ball and head it past the goalkeeper to put the Huskies up, 1-0.
Connecticut would score again in the 33rd minute when Georgina Giddings gained possession of the ball on the left side of the field and crossed it to Erin Clark who headed the ball into the back of the net to go up 2-0.
The Friars played well in the game, out shooting their opponent, 19-11, and edging the Huskies on shots on goal, 7-4. Providence played with poise and had some good opportunities to score, but couldn't take advantage of them.
The Friars are back in action on Sunday, September 20 when they host Sacred Heart at 1:00 p.m. on Glay Field.
