HAMDEN, CONN. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team defeated Quinnipiac, 12-7, in non-conference action on April 22 in Hamden, Conn. Graduate student Jonathan Hollister (Longmeadow, Mass.) netted a season high of five points on two goals and three assists to reach 100 career points at Providence. Hollister becomes just the 19th player all-time at PC to score 100 points in a career. With three games left on the Friars' regular-season schedule, Hollister has tallied 57 goals and 43 assists in his career. His 100 career points currently tie him for 18th place all-time in scoring at Providence with Steve Iannuccilli '94.
The Friars took control of the game early in the first quarter with four-straight goals in the first nine minutes of action. Quinnipiac answered with two goals at the 5:00 minute mark and the 3:08 mark to make the score, 4-2. Providence scored three goals within a minute and a half of each other to take a 7-2 lead early in the second quarter. Senior Mark Seyer (Kirkwood, Mo.) started it off with 11:32 on the clock, assisted by senior Michael Farley (Westfield, N.J.). At the 11:06 mark, freshman Bobby Labadini (Westford, Mass.) converted a man-up opportunity off a feed from junior Brendan Ryan (Chatham, N.J.). Farley connected on the Friars' third goal of the span, unassisted, with 10:06 on the clock. Quinnipiac posted its only goal of the second quarter at the 4:58 mark to make the score 7-3, but Providence would go into halftime with an 8-3 lead on a man-up goal from junior Bennett Murphy (Princeton, N.J.) with 3:13 left in the half.
Quinnipiace outscored Providence, 4-1, in the third quarter to get within two goals (9-7), but it proved to be as close at the Bobcats would get. The Friars closed out the game with three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to take the 12-7 win. It was in the fourth quarter that Hollister made his final push at 100 points in the game. He assisted sophomore Devin McBride's (Marblehead, Mass.) goal just 16 seconds into the fourth quarter. Hollister then scored an unassisted goal at the 12:31 mark for his 99th career point, and his 100th point came via an assist on McBride's second goal of the game with 5:22 left to play.
Ryan finished the day with four points on one goal and three assists for PC. In his third season with the team, he has tallied 50 career assists, and currently sits tied for 11th all-time at PC in career assists with Steve Iannuccilli '94. Ryan leads the Friars in assists in 2006 with 16.
Joining Hollister and McBride with two goals apiece in the game was Labadini. Farley completed the afternoon with three points on one goal and two assists. At the face-off "X", Seyer won seven-of-12 of his face-off attempts, while freshman Joe Watkins (Ocala, Fla.) won seven-of-10 faceoffs.
