PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team fell to North Carolina, 11-7, in non-conference action at the Friar Lacrosse Complex on Sunday, April 23 in Providence, R.I. UNC was led offensively by Andrew McElduff and Bart Wagner, who each posted four points. McElduff netted four goals, while Wagner contributed two goals and two assists. Senior Michael Farley (Westfield, N.J.) led the Friar offense with a single-game career-high of five goals.

The Friars jumped out to an early, 1-0, lead just 1:35 into the game with a goal from Farley. Farley's first tally of the day was assisted by senior Tom Kelly (Henniker, N.H.). UNC answered with two-straight goals at the 11:27 and 7:12 marks of the first quarter to take a 2-1 lead. McElduff struck first, unassisted. Sean Link scored the Tar Heel's second goal off a feed from Wagner.

Farley tied the game, 2-2, with 11:11 on the clock in the second quarter. North Carolina then rattled off three-unanswered goals to end the half. Ben Hunt and Drew Habeck scored back-to-back at 10:09 and 10:03. Wagner added the final goal of the half at the 9:18 mark. The Tar Heels took a 5-2 lead into halftime.

UNC pushed its lead to six goals (8-2) to start the third quarter as McElduff, Hunt and Wagner found the back of the cage. Farley tallied his third goal of the afternoon with six-seconds left in the third quarter to make the score, 8-3.

In the fourth quarter, Habeck gave the Tar Heels a 9-3 lead at the 7:43 mark. The Friars then exploded for three-straight goals within a one minute and four seconds of one another to make the score 9-6. Senior Mark Seyer (Kirkwood, Mo.) connected, unassisted, with 7:37 remaining in the game. Kelly followed with an unassisted score at the seven-minute mark. Farley netted his fourth goal of the game 27-seconds later (6:33), unassisted.

McElduff halted the Friars' run with two-straight goals at 5:36 and 2:34 to take an 11-6 lead. Farley scored the game's final goal with 15 seconds left to make the score, 11-7.

Junior goalkeeper Peter Littell (Upper Montclair, N.J.) registered 10 saves in the cage for Providence. Trey Sheain made six saves for UNC. The Friars won 12-of-22 face-off opportunities in the game and were led in that category by Seyer, who won 10 of his 16 attempts. UNC outshot Providence, 38-27, and held the advantage in groundballs, 38-31.

Providence (6-6, 4-2 MAAC) will travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to take on MAAC foe Marist on Wednesday, April 26. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. The Friars return to the Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. on Saturday, April 29 to face Mount St. Mary's in MAAC action at 1:00 p.m. It marks the final regular-season game of the year and will feature a pregame ceremony to honor the team's graduating seniors.
