Bennett Murphy enters his first season as an assistant coach with the Friar lacrosse program. He will work closely with the Friars[apos] offensive unit as the offensive coordinator.
Murphy attended Providence College and enjoyed a stellar career with the Friars from 2005-2008. In 58 games, he registered 53 goals and 29 assists for 82 points. During his final season in 2008, Murphy enjoyed his finest season on offense with single-season career highs of 23 goals, 14 assists and 37 points. For his efforts, he was named to the All-MAAC Second Team and MAAC All-Tournament Team.
He also was named the program[apos]s Mark C. Cordon Award Winner in 2008 and was among the honorees for the award in 2007, when it was presented to the 11-member senior class. This award is given annually in the memory of Mark C. Cordon ([apos]89) who tragically lost his battle with cancer in October, 1998. Also known as the 'Heart and Soul' award, it is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a lacrosse student-athlete at Providence College.
Murphy completed his undergraduate degree in finance at Providence College in 2007. He competed for the Friars in 2008 as a graduate student, pursuing a masters in business administration as part of the College[apos]s MBA program. Murphy is on schedule to complete his graduate degree in May 2009.
