Buffalo, N.Y. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team was defeated at Canisius, 12-11, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play on Saturday, April 1. The Friars scored three goals by halftime, and four in each of the remainder periods. The Friars fall to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Senior Michael Farley (Westfield, N.J.) led the Friars with five points on one goal and four assists. Freshman Bobby Labadini (Westford, Mass.) netted a career-high four goals and picked up two ground balls. Junior Brendan Ryan (Chatham, N.J.) recorded three points with two handouts and one goal, while graduate student Jonathan Hollister (Longmeadow, Mass.) posted two points with one goal and one assist.
Senior Mark Seyer (Kirkwood, Mo.) and junior Mark Dillon (Gaithersburg, Md.) along with sophomores R.J. Lamontagne (Pittsford, N.Y.) and Devin McBride (Marblehead, Mass.) each netted a goal for the Friars.
Michael Bloch and Kevin Ross paced the Griffins with six points each. Angus Dineley played all 60 minutes in goal for Canisius and made six saves. He faced 39 Friar shot attempts. Seventeen of the 39 shots were on goal.
Junior Peter Littell (Upper Montclair, N.J.) took his first loss of the season for Providence between the pipes with 10 saves.
Providence was outshot by Canisius, 39-27, and gave up the groundball advantage, 34-23. Both teams went one-for-two on the man-up goal opportunity.
Providence (2-3, 2-1 MAAC) will return to action on Wednesday, April 5 when they host Fairfield at the Friar Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. at 7:00 p.m.
