Women's Basketball Coach Jim Jabir Resigns

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- It was announced on Tuesday, April 23 that Providence College Women's Basketball Head Coach Jim Jabir has resigned to accept a position as an assistant coach at another university.

Jabir, who has served as the head coach at Providence for six seasons (1996-02), compiled a record of 62-102 with the Friars. This season, the Friars posted a 13-15 mark and finished eighth (7-9) in the BIG EAST.

"Providence College would like to thank Jim for his service over the last six years," Providence College Athletics Director Bob Driscoll stated. "The College will be conducting a national search to fill this position immediately. Women's basketball always has been and will continue to be an integral part of our athletic department. It is my goal to improve all the athletic teams at Providence College and women's basketball is a big part of that mission. We will use this opportunity to continue to move forward and improve Providence College women's basketball."

Jabir, 39, has been a head coach for 16 seasons. He has an all-time career coaching mark of 220-223.

"I'm proud of the work that the players and the coaches have done at Providence College," Jabir said. "My family and I have enjoyed being a part of the College and the community. I feel that the team improved this season and this young, promising squad has a bright future. I'm proud of our efforts over the last six years and I believe that we did the best possible job with the resources available, while competing in one of the top conferences in the country."
