PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team defeated Bryant College, 75-56, in a preseason exhibition game on Sunday, November 3 in Providence, R.I. Sophomore Michal Epstein (Rehovot, Israel) led four Friars in double figures with 14 points. Senior Kacee Wheeler (Bakersfield, Calif.) registered a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Epstein's 14 points marked a game high. She connected on four-of-11 shots from the floor and was six-of-eight from the free-throw line. Epstein also posted a game-high seven assists and six steals for the Friars. Joining Wheeler with 12 points each were senior guard Brooke Freeburg (Waterford, Pa.) and junior guard Kristin Quinn (Sewell, N.J.). Sophomore forward Gayle Nwafili (Maplewood, N.J.) matched Wheeler with a game-high 12 rebounds and added eight points and two blocked shots.
Bryant College was led by Deneva Fogarty. Fogarty recorded a team-high 12 points, five assists and six steals as a reserve. Starting forward Tanya Iwanski led the Bulldogs on the boards with nine rebounds.
Providence will play its second and final exhibition game on Monday, November 11 at 7:00 p.m. against the Houston Jaguars. The game is scheduled to be played at Alumni Hall on the campus of Providence College.
