PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence men's lacrosse team posted an 8-7 win over the Virginia Military Institute on Saturday, April 7th, as sophomore attack, Skip Dunphy (Manhasset, N.Y.) knotched his 5th and final goal of the afternoon with :37 seconds remaining in the contest.

The Friars started off the scoring in the first quarter as Chris Houston (Garden City, N.Y.) tallied his 17th goal of the season off a feed from Jim Dooley (Maplewood, N.J.) at the 18:16 mark. V.M.I tied the game at one goal apiece with 12:44 on the clock when Leo McInerney scored one of his two unassisted goals. Providence countered, and took a 2-1 lead as Jon Meehan (Peabody, Mass.) tallied his seventh goal of the year on an assist from Kyle Ojakian (Cheshire, Conn.). The Keydets tied the game at two as Brad Muston connected at 4:05. David Kole (Montclair, N.J.) followed with a goal at 3:11 for the Friars to regain the lead at 3-2, but Muston tied the game for the third time (3-3), as he recorded a goal with 2:47 to play in the quarter. The goal was the 100th career point for Muston, and was assisted by McInerney.

The game remained tied at three goals each into halftime, before Dunphy put the Friars on his back during a five-goal scoring spree in the second half to close out the game, and lead PC to the 8-7 win.

Dunphy scored three goals in the third quarter, starting at 11:49 on an assist from Houston. The Keydets followed with consecutive goals at 10:52 and 10:26 to take a 5-4 lead. Dunphy found the net again at 5:23, off an assist from Dooley, to tie the game for the fifth time (5-5), and scored an unassited goal at 3:35. Brian Cummings tied the game at six goals apiece to close out the quarter with a goal at 1:53 for V.M.I.

In the final quarter, Houston found Dunphy for his fourth goal of the game at 14:06. V.M.I. tied the game for the seventh and final time at 8:36 with a goal from McInerney. The game stayed tied at 7-7 until :37 seconds remained on the clock, when Dunphy connected off a feed from Ojakian to win the game. The Keydets threatened with nine seconds to go, but Brian O'Rorke caused a pivotal turnover on the defensive end to secure the 8-7 lead, and gain the win.

John Farley earned the win in goal, and raised his record to 4-4 on the season. Farley made 12 saves in 60 minutes of work. Keydet goalkeeper Cregg Burns took the loss, and fell to 1-7. He also played all 60 minutes, and made 12 saves.
