PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team was defeated by the Houston Jaguars in the teams' first exhibition game, on Monday, November 5, in Providence, Rhode Island.
The Jaguars' Tatum Brown led all scorers with 31 points, and pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds. Teammate Abby Garachek scored 16 points, while Katrina Colleton and Tora Suber tallied 13 points and 11 points, respectively.
Graduate student Dani Trippany (Massena, N.Y.) led the Friars with 14 points on six of nine shooting from the floor. Freshman Michal Epstein (Rehovot, Israel) scored 12 points, and sophomore Ryann Kilgore (Belleville, Mich.) added 10 points to round out the double-digit scorers. Freshman Jessica Simmonds (South Orange, N.J.) pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds and added seven points.
The Friars trailed, 44-37, at halftime as they hit 17 of 27 field goals for a .630 field goal percentage. In the second half, Providence shot just 26 percent from the floor (12-46), and fell by a score of 87-76.
Providence will host Bryant College in the teams' final exhibition game of the season on Sunday, November 11 at 2:00. The Friars open up the regular-season schedule at Siena on Friday, November 16 at 7:00 p.m.
