PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's ice hockey team rebounded from lastnight's 4-2 loss to Mercyhurst with a 3-1 win against the Lakers on Saturday night at Schneider Arena.

Erin Cannon scored her first goal of the season just over eight minutes into the game to give the Friars the early 1-0 lead. Darlene Stephenson followed with her ninth goal of the year one minute and six seconds later on a power play. Jenn Butsch scored the Friars third and final goal of the night 2:24 into the second period on a double assist from Kim Mathias and Andrea Hill. Mathias registered two assists on the night and Stephenson assisted on the Friars' first goal.

Merchyhurst attempted to rally in the second period with a goal from Randi Pilger at the 12:45 mark, but couldn't get any closer as Providence shut the Lakers out the remainder of the game for the win.

Providence goalkeeper Brigid Keady played all 60 minutes in goal and made 18 saves. Mercyhurst used Amber Natali for 22:24 in net. Natali made 18 saves and allowed all three goals before being replaced by Tiffany Ribble. Ribble made four saves in 36 minutes and 17 seconds of work.

The Friars raise their record to 13-8-3 and put an end to a seven-game winless streak. The Lakers fall to 11-15-2. Providence will remain home for a two game series with Wayne State on Friday, February 2 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, February 3 at 2:00 p.m.
