PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College men's lacrosse player
Rhett Chambers (Larchmont, N.Y.) was named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Team of the Week for the week on April 28. Chambers and
Richie Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass.) were also named to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association DI/II Team of the Week on April 27. The Friars defeated St. John's, 18-10, on Friday, April 24 to clinch the No. 2 seed in the BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse Tournament.
Chambers tallied seven points on four goals and three assists. It marked the junior's seventh hat-trick and fifth game with three-or-more assists this season. Chambers' second goal of the game marked his 100th career point. He owns 105 career points on 58 goals and 47 assists. Chambers leads Providence's offense with 65 points this season. He needs just one more point to match
Ryan Bell's single-season points record (66). Bell scored a pro-gram-best 66 points in back-to-back seasons (2024 and 2025). This marks the first time Chambers has been honored by the USILA and just the second time a Friar has been named to its team of the week.
Ian Olenik was previously named to the USILA Team of the Week on April, 13. It also marks the third time Chambers has been honored named to the NEILA DI/II Team of the Week (3/23, 4/21, 4/27).
Joseph recorded a season-highs in points (seven) and goals (six) in Providence's win. The senior currently leads the Friars in goals (34) and ranks second in points (43) and has posted six hat-tricks on the season. Joseph owns 165 career points on 124 goals and 41 assists. He ranks fifth on Providence's all-time points list and moved to second on the all-time goals list, passing his former teammate Matt Grillo '22 '23G (120 goals). Joseph was previously honored by the NEILA on its Preseason Watch List - Returning Players.
WHAT'S NEXT... The Friars will host the 2026 BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse Tournament on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. The semifinals are set for Thursday, April 30. Providence enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed and will play No. 3 seed Villanova at 7:30 p.m. No. 1-seed Georgetown and No. 4-seed Denver will play in the first semifinal of the evening, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Both semifinal games will be broadcast on ESPN+. The winner of each semifinal will advance to the BIG EAST Championship Game on Saturday, March 2 at 2:00 p.m. on ESPNU.
