PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College men's lacrosse players
Jack Cooper (East Hampton, N.Y.) and
Richie Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass.) earned BIG EAST Weekly Honors on Monday, April 20. Cooper was named Specialist of the Week, while Jospeh was named to the Weekly Honor Roll. The Friars defeated Denver, 8-7, in overtime on Saturday, April 18, in Providence, R.I. Providence clinched a spot in the BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse Championship with one regular-season game remaining on the schedule.
Cooper won 12-of-18 faceoffs for a .667 win percentage in the Friars' overtime win versus Denver. He also matched his career-high with five ground balls. The sophomore currently ranks second on the team with a .478 faceoff win percentage (55-155).
Joseph scored a game-high three goals in the Friars' win, including the game-winning goal in overtime. It marked the senior's fifth hat-trick of the season. Joseph also moved to third Providence's all-time goals list with 118 career goals. He currently ranks second on the team in goals this season (28). Joseph was previously named the BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and earned recognition on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
WHAT'S NEXT... The Friars will travel to Queens, N.Y. to face BIG EAST foe St. John's on Friday, April 24. Opening faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
