Men’s Lacrosse Defeated By No. 12/12 Harvard, 10-4

Matt Lazzaro scored two goals for the Friars.

Worcester, Mass. – The Providence College men's lacrosse team was defeated by No. 12/12 Harvard (1-0), 10-4 on Saturday, Feb. 14 in Cambridge, Mass. Providence moved to 2-1 on the season. Junior Matt Lazzaro (Franklin, Mass.) recorded two goals for the Friars. 


1st Quarter:

• Harvard opened the game's scoring action with early back-to-back goals that gave the Crimson a 2-0 lead (9:06). 

• Rhett Chambers (Larchmont, N.Y.) responded with a goal that cut the Crimson lead to 2-1 (6:01).

• Harvard found the back of the net and extended its lead to 3-1. With 10 seconds left in the quarter, Lazzaro scored and cut Harvard's lead to 3-2. 


2nd Quarter:

• Richie Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored his first goal of the day early in the second quarter and tied the game at 3-3 (14:06). 

• Harvard responded with three straight goals and took a 6-3 lead (7:46). 

• Harvard went 6-11 on face-off opportunities in the first half. 

• Harvard held the advantage in caused turnovers by a margin of 8-2 in the opening half. 

3rd Quarter:

• Harvard scored three goals in the third quarter and extended its scoring run to six unanswered goals as they took a 9-3 lead. 

• Providence was held scoreless in the third quarter. 

4th Quarter

• Lazzaro scored his second goal of the game as Harvard led (12:10). 

• Harvard added another goal with under two minutes left and held onto a 10-4 lead as time expired. 

Notes:

• Lazzaro registered two goals for the Friars. 

• Chambers scored a goal and added an assist. 

• Joseph scored one goal for the Friars. The senior has also recorded 129 career points (97 goals / 33 assists) and is 17th nineth on the program all-time scoring list and ranks seventh on the all-time goals list. 

Chris Esposito (Gloucester, Mass.) registered a 5-10 mark from the faceoff 'x' as the Friars recorded an 8-17 total on the game. 

• Harvard outshot the Friars 31-21. 

• Harvard caused 11 turnovers. The Crimson also tallied 31 groundballs to the Friars 15. 

 

WHAT'S NEXT... The Friars will return to Providence to face Brown on Feb. 21. Faceoff is set for 12:00 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. The game will be streamed on Friars Live.
