PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's soccer team is set to face Rutgers University (2-0-3) on Saturday, Sept. 6. The match will kick off at 6:30 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. The game will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
SCOUTING THE FRIARS... The Providence College women's soccer team recently defeated Sacred Heart, 1-0, to improve to a 3-1-0 overall record. The The Friars opened the season with two wins over Army, 1-0, and Northeastern, 2-1, before falling to Rhode Island, 2-0.
Four players have each scored a goal for the Friars this season.
Lily Gibbs (Dedham, Mass.),
Courtnee Pickles (Methuen, Mass.) and
Isabella Kloock-Jensen (Aabenraa, Denmark) have each registered game winners and
Amaya Coffie (Warwick, R.I.) has also added a goal.
Colleen Casey (Franklin, Mass.),
Alanna Coffie (Warwick, Mass),
Thaea Mouratidis (Toronto, Ont.) and
Emma Gregorski (South Glastonbury, Conn.) have each logged an assist for Providence. Graduate student goalkeeper
Ellie Thallman (Northville, Mich.) has anchored Friars in net, playing every minute (360:00) across the first four games. Thallman has registered a .800 save percentage on 12 saves and has recorded two shutout wins.
Stephanie Schoeley (Thedford, Ont.) and
Ella McBride (Peterborough, Ont.) have led the Friars' back line, logging 355 and 336 minutes, respectively.
ELLA MCBRIDE AND COURTNEE PICKLES EARN BIG EAST WEEKLY HONORS... Ella McBride and
Courtnee Pickles earned BIG EAST Weekly honors on Monday, Aug. 25. McBride was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. The senior anchored the Friars' defense, logging 90 minutes of action and helped limit Northeastern to only two shots on goal in the match. Pickles was named to the weekly Honor Roll after she was credited with the game-winning goal in the 67th minute. It also marked her first-career goal with the Friars.
ELLIE THALLMAN AND LILY GIBBS EARN BIG EAST WEEKLY HONORS... Ellie Thallman and
Lily Gibbs earned BIG EAST Weekly honors on Monday, Aug. 18. Thallman was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week following her clean sheet performance in the team's in versus Army. Gibbs was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after she scored her first career goal in the Friars' win over Army.
ELLA MCBRIDE NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-BIG EAST TEAM… Ella McBride was named to the Preseason ALL-BIG EAST Team. The BIG EAST released its 2025 Preseason Coaches' Poll and preseason honors on Aug. 12. McBride, who earned All-BIG EAST Third Team honors as a junior in 2024, started in 12 games for the Friars. She finished tied for second on the team in points (eight) on three goals and two assists. McBride has started in all four games this season logging 336 minutes on the Friars back line.
BIG EAST PRESEASON COACHES POLL... Providence women's soccer was picked to finish sixth in the 2025 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll earning 53 points. Providence finished last season with a 3-5-2 record in conference play.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST RUTGERS... The Friars hold a 2-18-1 record against the Scarlet Knights. In the last meeting between the two teams, Rutgers defeated Providence, 1-0, on Sept. 7, 2023, in Piscataway, N.J.
SCOUTING THE SCARLET KNIGHTS... Rutgers enters Saturday's match with a 2-0-3 record. The Scarlet Knights opened the season with two shutout victories over NJIT (3-0) and Fairfield (2-0), before tying games with Princeton (1-1), Air Force (0-0), and UConn (0-0).
Graduate student Nata Ramirez leads Rutgers' offense with four points on one goal and two assists. Six Scarlet Knights have each registered a goal this season. Redshirt junior Olivia Bodmer has anchored the Scarlet Knights' in net this season starting in four of five games. Bodmer has posted a .958 save percentage on 23 saves and has recorded three shutouts. Bodmer is the sister of former Friar goalkeeper,
Emma Bodmer. Bodmer was named to the United Soccer Coaches DI Goalkeeper to Watch list and the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List. Bodmer was also named to a Big Ten player to watch along with Ramirez and Ashley Baran.
RETURNERS... The Friars return 18 players from last year's roster including three multi-goal scorers.
Senior defender/midfielder,
Ella McBride (Peterborough, Ont.) enters her fourth season with the Friars. Throughout her career at Providence, she has played in 39 games and recorded 12 points on five goals and two assists. Last season, McBride finished tied for second on the team in scoring with a career-high eight points on five goals and two assists. She was named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team at the conclusion of the season. McBride missed six games in 2024 season to compete on the Canadian National Team in the Under-20 FIFA World Cup.
Graduate student goalkeeper
Ellie Thallman (Northville, Mich.) returns for her second season with the Friars. Thallman joined Providence last year as a transfer from Michigan State. She played in 15 games in net for the Friars and compiled a 2-3-3 record. She registered 24 saves and a .706 save percentage. Thallman was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept. 30.
Junior
Marryn Gruhn (Northport, N.Y.) enters her third season with the Friars. She has played in 36 games for the Friars and has tallied five career goals. Last season, Gruhn recorded two goals and was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Sept. 30.
Sophomore
Kristin Middaugh (Lancaster, N.Y.) enters her second season with the Providence. In her freshman campaign, Middaugh netted two goals for the Friars.
Stephanie Schoeley (Thedford, Ont.) returns for her second season with the Friars. In her freshman season Schoeley scored one goal for the Friars. This past summer, Schoeley helped lead Team Canada to a 2025 CONCACAF U20 Women's Championship victory.
Senior
Abbey Finn (Dedham, Mass.) returns for her fourth season with the Friars. Last season, Finn anchored the Friars' back line and led the team with 1,569 minutes on the field.
NEWCOMERS… Providence welcomes 11 student-athletes to the program this season, featuring two transfers and nine freshmen. The transfers include junior midfielder
Meg Roden (Belconnen, Australia) and redshirt freshman
Caitlin Driscoll (Sherborn, Mass.) from Syracuse.
In her two seasons at High Point, Roden played in 36 games with 26 appearances in the starting lineup. She scored four goals and added one assist at High Point. Roden was named to the Big South Conference All-Freshman Team in 2023 and earned BIG South Conference Honorable Mention in 2024. Driscoll spent one season at Syracuse and did not appear in any games.

UP NEXT... The Friars will host Cornell (2-0-2) on Thursday, Sept. 11, at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. The game will kick off at 7:00 p.m. and stream on ESPN+. Providence holds a 0-3-1 all-time record against the Big Red. In the last meeting between the two teams, Providence was defeated by Cornell, 2-1 (OT), on Nov. 11, 2002, in Jamaica, N.Y.
