Women's Hockey Selected Fifth In Hockey East Preseason Poll

The Friars begin Hockey East play on Oct. 10 at Northeastern University.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's hockey team was selected to finish fifth in the Hockey East Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the league on Tuesday, Sept. 16.

The Friars, who received 61 points, were picked to finish behind UConn (86), Boston University (82), Northeastern University (76) and Boston College (64). The Huskies and Terriers each received five first place votes.

Rounding out the poll was New Hampshire (44), Maine (41), Vermont (41), Holy Cross (27) and Merrimack (18).

Providence finished with a 20-12-3 overall record and a 16-9-2 mark in Hockey East during the 2024-25 season. Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario) returns for her senior year after earning the Cammi Granato Award as Hockey East Player of the Year and being named a First Team All-Star. Kirchmair led the team with 19 goals and 18 assists for 37 points. Audrey Knapp (Stevens Point, Wis.), a junior, finished second on the team in scoring with 19 goals and 16 assists for 35 points, earning First Team All-Star honors. In goal, Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) returns for a graduate season after posting a 1.87 goals-against average, a .922 save percentage and a 19-11-3 record last season. Walinski was recognized as a Hockey East Third Team All-Star.

The Friars open the 2025-26 season at home against Sacred Heart University on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 3:00 p.m. for an exhibition game. Providence opens Hockey East play at Northeastern University on Friday, Oct. 10 at 1:30 p.m. at Matthews Arena.
