Providence Women’s Track Wins 4 x 1,500 Championship Of America At Penn Relays

The Friars set a program record and ran the third-fastest mark in collegiate history.
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Providence College women's 4 x 1,500 team competed on the final day of Penn Relays on Saturday, April 25 in Philadelphia, Pa. The Friar women won the Women's 4 x 1,500 Championship of America in a program record time of 16:59.65, the third-fastest time in collegiate history.

The women's 4 x 1,500 team of graduate student Shannon Flockhart (Cambridge, England), graduate student Alex Millard (Kent, England), Cara Laverty (Derry, Ireland) and senior Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) were 11 seconds faster than the second place team.
"We changed the order of the legs today by putting Shannon and Kim on second and third to make the favorites, Washington, chase us," Friars Head Coach Ray Treacy said. "Fortunately, the gap was bigger than expected, and they could not close on us. Fantastic for this group to bring home another Championship of America Penn Relays wheel."
The previous Friar women's record in the 4 x 1,500 of 17:11.35 was established at the Penn Relays in 2023 by Flockhart, May, Alex O'Neill and Jane Buckley.
