Men’s And Women’s Track To Compete At BIG EAST Indoor Track Championship

The championship will be held on Feb. 28-Mar. 1 in Chicago.
PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College men's and women's indoor track teams will travel to Chicago, Ill. for the BIG EAST Indoor Track Championships on Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, March 1. The two-day event will be held at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Indoor Track and Field Facility and will be broadcast live on FloSports. Both days will begin at 11:00 a.m.

Headlining the Friar women will be Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) in the 3,000 meters. May, a five-time All-American, set a program record in the 3,000 meters of 8:44.73 at the Boston University Terrier Classic on Jan. 31. Also this season, she won the mile (4:28.33) at the UMass Flagship Invitational on Jan. 12. She is scheduled to run the 3,000 and the DMR. Last year, May captured the 3,000 at the BIG EAST Indoor Championship in a time of 8:54.43. She also helped the DMR team earn a first-place finish at the 2024 BIG EAST Indoor Championship.
Also running the 3,000 meters will be graduate student Alex Millard (Kent, England). Millard, who earned All-America honors in cross country in the fall, is in her first year with the Friars after transferring from Loughborough University in England. She has not run a 3,000 this season, but has a personal record of 8:52.02 in the 3K.
Graduate student Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England), a six-time All-American will compete in the mile and the DMR. Last year, she won the mile at the BIG EAST Championship (4:36.92). She also helped the DMR team finish first. This year, she finished ninth in the mile at the (4:31.71) at the Terrier Classic on Jan. 31. Last year, at the Boston University Terrier Classic on Jan. 27, Flockhart marked a personal best time of 4:30.83 in the mile.
Also competing in the mile and the 4 x 800 meter relay will be junior Cara Laverty (Derry, Ireland) and sophomore Kiera Hall (Christchurch, New Zealand). Junior Jill Fenerty (Franklin, Mass.) was a member of the 2024 Friar DMR squad that captured the BIG EAST title. She will run the DMR and also the 4 x 400 meters. Sophomore Maeve O'Neill (Cork, Ireland) will compete in the 800 and the 4 x 800 meters.
For the men, Pat Thygesen (Brisbane, Australia) and Michael Morgan (Sligo, Ireland) will be competing in the 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters, respectively. Thygesen ran a 7:57.82 in the 3,000 meters on Feb. 10, 2024 at the Boston University Valentine Invitational. He also helped the Friar DMR team to a second-place finish at the 2024 BIG EAST Indoor Championship. Morgan set a personal record of 14:03.30 in the 5,000 meters at the Boston University Colyear–Danville Season Opener on Dec. 2, 2023. Last year, he placed third in the 5,000 (14:06.85) at the BIG EAST Indoor Championship.
Graduate student Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand) also will compete in the 5,000 meters. He placed fifth (14:22.53) in the 5,000 meters at the 2024 BIG EAST Indoor Championship. He owns a PR of 13:39.75 in the 5K.
Senior Brett Lehman (Lower Gwynedd, Pa.) will run the 400 meters and the 4 X 400 meters. He set the program record for the indoor 400 meters when he ran a time of 48.27 at the BU Valentine Invitational on February 14.
Freshman Cormac Dixon (Dublin, Ireland) will run the 3,000 meters and the DMR. Graduate student Josh Lewin (West Chester, Pa.) will compete in the 800 and the 4 x 800. Sophomore Jon Mignacca (Seekonk, Mass.) will compete in the high jump. He has a PR of 2.05 meters. Last year, Mignacca finished fourth (1.96 meters) at the BIG EAST Indoor Championship.
