Ryan Bell set the Friars career scoring mark in the loss; Jack Horrigan reached the 100-point milestone.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's lacrosse team was defeated by Brown, 7-6, on Saturday, Feb. 22 in Providence, R.I. The Friars dropped to 2-2 on the season. Ryan Bell (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Jack Horrigan (Lutherville, Md.) pace the Providence with three points each. Bell became the Friars' all-time leading scorer in the game, while Horrigan reached the 100-point milestone.

 
1st Quarter:

• Brown scored four unanswered goals in the first quarter.

• Brown outshot the Friars 9-8 in the opening 15 minutes.

• Brown goalkeeper Connor Foley recorded seven saves to keep the Friars scoreless.  


2nd Quarter:

• The Friars went on a 4-0 run in the second quarter to tie the game, 4-4. The first three goals were scored during a span of 1:21.

• Horrigan scored first to put the Friars on the board at the 7:41 mark, assisted by Bell.

• Bell followed with a goal and cut Brown's lead to 4-2 (7:15). The goal marked Bell's second point of the afternoon, allowing him to set the career scoring record at Providence. He jumped passed Ken Leahy's '00, who previously held the record with 189 career points.

Parker Kennedy (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) delivered a strike for the Friars to cut Brown's lead to 4-3 (6:20).

Jay Wilkerson (Baltimore, Md.) tied the game at 4-4 with his first career goal at the 3:26 mark.

• Quinn McConnaughey (Cohasset, Mass.) went 4-8 from the "X" in the first half.

• The Friars outshot Brown 23-14 in the first half.

3rd Quarter:

• Horrigan opened the third quarter with his second goal of the day at 14:12, giving the Friars their first lead of the game (5-4).

• Brown responded with back-to-back goals to regain the lead, 6-5.

• Providence's Albert Paniccia tied the game, 6-6, off a feed from Horrigan with 7:05 left to play. Horrigan's assist marked his 100th career point with the Friars.

• Brown outshot the Friars 12-6 in the third quarter and each team finished the frame with two goals.

Dan Donahue (Weston, Mass.) recorded five saves in the third quarter. 

4th Quarter

• Brown scored to take back the lead with 6:28 left to play in the fourth quarter.

• The Bears held the Friars scoreless during the final quarter to hold on for a 7-6 victory.

• Brown outshot the Friars 10-5 in the fourth quarter.

• Donahue recorded four saves in the fourth quarter.

Notes:

• Bell recorded three points on one goal and two assists. He now owns 191 career points and is the program's all-time scoring leader. The mark was previously held by Ken Leahy '00 (189 points).

• Bell also is the program's all-time assist leader and he continues to build a cushion in the top spot (137 assists).

• Horrigan recorded three points on two goals and one assist. His assist in the third quarter marked his 100th career point as a Friar. Horrigan's two goals tie him for 16th on the All-Time Career Goals list.

• McConnaughey went 7-14 at the face-off 'X' and both teams finished the day with eight face-off wins.

• Donahue recorded 15 saves in the agme and a .682 save percentage.

What's Next: The Friars will travel to Merrimack on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Faceoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
