Zachary Borgiel made 29 saves for his second shutout of the year while
Logan Will and
Hudson Malinoski scored third-period goals as the No. 5/4 Providence College men's hockey team retained the Mayor's Cup with a 2-0 win over Brown on Tuesday (Jan. 7) at Meehan Auditorium.
- The teams skated through a scoreless opening 20 minutes of play.
- Borgiel stood tall, turning away all 17 shots he faced in the first period.
- Providence began to take over the momentum in the second period, outshooting the Bears by a 31-12 margin over the final 40 minutes of play.
- The Friars struck just 24 seconds into the third period to take a 1-0 lead on a power-play tally from
Logan Will, his seventh goal of the season.
Andrew Centrella and
Will Elger recorded assists on the play.

Hudson Malinoski gave the Friars insurance at 13:13 of the third period as he blasted a one-timer on the power play past Shea for his fourth of the season.
Guillaume Richard and
Logan Sawyer assisted on the goal.
- Borgiel and the Friar defense held the Bears' attack at bay during 3:00 of 6-on-5 play with the goaltender pulled.
- Borgiel earned his second shutout of the season and fourth of his career, stopping all 29 shots he faced.
- Will extended his point streak to eight games (3-6-9) and now has a team-high three power-play goals this season.
- Providence has now won five-consecutive games at Meehan Auditorium and have outscored the Bears by a 20-1 margin in those games with three-consecutive shutouts.
- The Friars closed out their non-conference slate at 10-1-0 and improved to 9-1-1 away from Schneider Arena this season.

Scouting the Eagles:
- No. 2 Boston College (14-4-1, 7-3-1 HEA) enters the weekend coming off a 3-1 home win over Harvard on Tuesday night. The Eagles previously split a weekend home-and-home with Merrimack last week.
- Through 19 games this season, forward Ryan Leonard (13-7-20) paces the Eagles in goals with 13, followed by Andre Gasseau (8-6-14) and Gabe Perrault (7-17-24) with eight and seven goals, respectively.
- Perrault leads the team in assists with 17, followed by freshman forward James Hagens (5-16-21). Hagens ranks third nationally among rookies is scoring with 21 points.
- In net, the Eagles have primarily looked to Jacob Fowler, who has posted a 1.83 GAA and .928 save percentage in 18 games this season.
- Defensively, Boston College has been one of the strongest teams nationally, the fifth-fewest goals per game, trailing Minnesota State (1.55), Maine (1.67), Western Michigan (1.89) and Denver (1.91).
- Boston College ranks first nationally in penalty kill percentage, killing off 46-of-50 opportunities (.920).
- With an average age of 20.1 years, Boston College skates the youngest roster across the NCAA.

Svedebäck Named Hockey East Goaltender of the Month/Mike Richter Award Watch List
Providence College junior Philip Svedebäck (Växjö, Sweden) was named Stop It Goaltending's Hockey East Goaltender of the Month for December on Friday, January 3. This marked Svedebäck's first-career monthly recognition as a Friar. Svedebäck led all Hockey East goaltenders in December with four wins, assisting the Friars to their current seven-game winning streak. He stopped 79-of-87 shots he faced last month, good for a 2.00 GAA and .908 save percentage. Overall in 2024-25, Svedebäck is 11-2-1 with a 2.24 GAA and .918 save percentage in 14 games played. For the third-consecutive season, he was named to the Mike Richter Award Watch List for the top NCAA Division I goaltender.

Eight Former Friars Earn Spots On NHL Opening Night Rosters
The Friars boasted eight alums that appeared on NHL opening night rosters - Noel Acciari (PIT), Jacob Bryson (BUF), Vincent Desharnais (VAN), Brandon Duhaime (WSH), Mark Jankowski (NSH), Kevin Rooney (CGY), Brandon Tanev (SEA) and Jake Walman (SJ).

Callahan Makes NHL Debut
Former Friar captain Mike Callahan '22 made his NHL debut with the Boston Bruins on Jan. 14 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He finished the night with a +1 rating in 14:11 of ice time.

Connelly Wins Gold With the U.S. At The 2025 World Junior Championship
Freshman
Trevor Connelly won gold with the United States at 2025 World Junior Championship after their 4-3 overtime win over Finland in the gold medal game on Jan. 5. Connelly finished the tournament with one goal, three assists and a +3 rating over seven games.

Leaman Hits Milestone
Head Coach
Nate Leaman earned his 249th career victory at Providence on Nov. 11, 2023, passing Lou Lamoriello as the program's winningest head coach all-time. On October 25, 2024, Leaman hit 400 career wins as a Division I head coach in Providence's 3-2 overtime win at Vermont. Leaman is the only Hockey East coach to post a winning record in each of the last 12 seasons.

Tanner Adams (9-6-15) leads the Friars with nine goals on the year, followed by seven from
Logan Will (7-11-18). Will and
Andrew Centrella (2-11-13) headlines the team with 11 assists, followed by 10 assists each from
Taige Harding (1-10-11) and
Austen May 0-10-10. Overall, Will paces the team with 18 points, followed by 15 from Adams, and 14 from
John Mustard (5-9-14). Will extended his point streak to eight games (3-6-9), which is tied for the second-longest active point streak in the NCAA (Isaac Howard, Michigan State, nine games).

Through nine conference matchups, Providence (15-3-2, 5-2-2 HEA) sits in a two-way tie for fifth place in the Hockey East standings with 17 points, alongside UMass-Lowell (12-6-2, 5-5-1 HEA). Maine (15-4-2, 7-2-2) sits in first place with 24 points, followed by Boston University (11-7-1, 7-3-1 HEA) at 23 points, a third-place tie between Boston College (14-4-1, 7-3-1 HEA) and UConn (11-8-1, 6-6-1 HEA) with 22 points. Providence has two games in hand on Maine, BU, BC and UMass Lowell and four games in hand on UConn.

Poisson Among Active Leaders
With an assist in the third period against Long Island University on Nov. 23, graduate student
Nick Poisson became the 55th member of the program to reach the 100-point milestone. Poisson also scored the game-winning goal in the 4-3 win.

After their victory over No. 17 Dartmouth at the Ledyard Classic on Dec. 29, the Friars improved to 5-3-0 in ranked matchups, including a 1-2-0 record in Hockey East action, and are currently riding a four-game win streak over ranked opponents.
