Providence College’s Ryan Bell Named BIG EAST Offensive Player Of The Year

Richie Joseph, Michael Chabra and James Corasaniti each earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST Second Team for men’s lacrosse.

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The BIG EAST announced its postseason major award winners and All-BIG EAST selections for men's lacrosse on May 1. Providence College was well represented among the list of honorees. Ryan Bell (Smithtown, N.Y.) was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year and also was a unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team. His teammates Richie Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass.), Michael Chabra (Reading, Mass.) and James Corasaniti (New York, N.Y.) each earned All-BIG EAST Second Team accolades. 
 
Bell is the first player in program history to earn BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year and fifth Friar to earn a major BIG EAST post-season award overall, joining 2017 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year Jarrod Neumann and three players who earned BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year (Peter Badgley – 2015, Tate Boyce – 2017, 2019 and James Corasaniti – 2023). He started all 14 regular-season games for the Friars, and enters the BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse Championship with a team-best 63 points on 21 goals and 42 assists. He is the Providence College all-time assists leader (116), having passed Matt Pymm '99, who closed his career with 102 assists. Bell tied the Friars' single-season assist record (42) and the single-season points record (63) in the team's final regular season joining Kyle Ojakian who previously set both marks in 2002. Bell has scored five-or-more points in eight games this season, including five games with seven-or-more. He currently ranks first in the BIG EAST and seventh in the nation in assists per game (3.00) and ranks first in the BIG EAST in points per game (4.5). He was honored by the league five times during the regular season, earning BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week three times and Weekly Honor Roll recognition, twice. Bell was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team and the Tewaaraton Award Watch List.
 
Joseph enters the BIG EAST Tournament ranked second on the team in scoring with 50 points on 38 goals and 12 assists. His 38 goals lead the team and mark a career high. The sophomore recorded seven hat tricks and he recently tallied a career-high eight points against St. John's on April 26. The sophomore has scored in 13 of the 14 regular-season games for the Friars in 2024, including 12 multi-goal contests. Joseph currently ranks first in the BIG EAST and 23rd in the nation in goals per game (2.71) and ranks fourth among NCAA Division I players in shot percentage (.494). He was honored by the league twice during the regular season, earning BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on April 29 and Honor Roll on February 2. 
 
Chabra started all 14 games for the Friars, and has recorded 21 points on 18 goals and three assists. The senior ranks 14th all-time in career goals at Providence College, with 82. He scored a season-high four goals against Brown on Feb. 24 and in the BIG EAST opener against No. 8 Georgetown (March 30). Chabra was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on February 26. Additionally, he was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST First Team, the Preseason NEILA All-New England First Team and named a Preseason All-America Honorable Mention. 
 
Corasaniti, who earned BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year during the 2023 campaign, has started all 14 regular-season games in goal for the Friars. He has amassed 152 saves, to go along with a .466 save percentage. The graduate student has compiled nine double-digit save games this season, including a season-high 17 saves against Villanova. Corsaniti also scored his first career goal against Villanova and added an assist against Merrimack. He was tabbed BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on April 8 and earned a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll, twice. He finished the regular season-ranked second in the BIG EAST in saves per game (10.86). Prior to the start of the season, he was featured on the Preseason All-BIG EAST First Team. 
 
The Friars begin BIG EAST Tournament action on Thursday, May 2 in the Semifinals. The No. 3-seed Friars will face the second-seeded and 10th-ranked Georgetown at 8:30 p.m. at Villanova Stadium in Villanova, Pa. The game will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network.
