Volleyball Defeated By Butler On The Road, 3-1.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College volleyball team was defeated by Butler, 3-1, in BIG EAST action on Saturday, Oct. 13 at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The Friars dropped to 7-10 overall (0-6 BIG EAST), while Butler improved to 3-15 (1-5 BIG EAST).
 
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Butler earned a 25-19 victory in the first set.
  • The two teams went back-and-forth to reach a tie score of 6-6.
  • Providence went on a 5-1 run to take an 11-7 advantage, forcing Butler to take a timeout.
  • The Friars maintained a five-point cushion later in the set, 18-13.
  • The Bulldogs responded with a 9-0 run to take the lead, 22-18.
  • Butler maintained their lead and won the set 25-19.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Butler won the second set, 25-20.
  • The two teams played evenly to reach a 6-6 tie.
  • Butler went on a 6-3 run to take a 12-9 lead.
  • The Friars responded and tied the set, 13-13.
  • Butler won the set 25-20.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence took the third set, 25-23.
  • Butler jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead.
  • The Friars chipped away to narrow the Bulldog's lead to one (7-6).  
  • The two teams went back and forth to reach a tie (14-14).
  • Butler took a 18-15 lead, forcing Providence to take a timeout.
  • Providence took the lead late in the set and won 25-23.
FORTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: Butler took the third set, 25-21 and won the match 3-1.
  • The two teams went back-and-forth to reach a tie score of 12-12.
  • Butler took a 15-14 lead and Providence called a timeout.
  • Coming out of the timeout Providence went on a 4-0 run to take a 18-15 lead.
  • Butler responded with a 6-1 run to take a 21-19 lead.
  • The Bulldogs maintained their lead to win the set, 25-21, and close out the match.
MATCH NOTES:
  • Macy Taylor led the Friars with 17 digs and 19 kills.
  • Shaliyah Rhoden tallied 13 digs and 16 kills.
  • Providence recorded 52 kills, 68 digs, three aces and two blocks.

WHATS NEXT:  The Friars will return to Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. to host St. John's and Villanova during the College's annual Homecoming Weekend. Providence will play St. John's on Friday, Oct. 18 at 5:00 p.m. and Villanova on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 3:00 p.m.
