PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College volleyball team was defeated by St. John's, 3-0, in BIG EAST action on Friday, Oct. 18 at Alumni Hall. The Friars dropped to 7-11 overall (0-7 BIG EAST), while St. John's improved to 14-7 (3-4 BIG EAST).
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: St. John's earned a 25-23 victory in the first set.
- The two teams went back-and-forth to reach a tie score of 8-8.
- The Friars went on 4-0 run to take a 12-8 lead, forcing St. John's to take a timeout.
- The Red Storm responded with an 8-4 run to tie the set 16-16.
- Providence and St. John's exchanged kills to keep the match tied (23-23).
- St. John's took set one 25-23.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: St. John's won the second set, 27-25.
- The two teams played evenly to reach an 11-11 tie.
- St. John's went on an 8-1 run to take a 18-11 advantage, forcing Providence to take a timeout.
- The Friars chipped away and narrowed the Red Storm's lead to 21-19.
- Lyric Berry recorded a kill to tie the set 24-24.
- The Red Storm held on to win the set 27-25.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: St. John's took the third set, 25-20.
- St. John's took an early 8-4 lead, forcing Providence to call a timeout.
- The Red Storm extended its lead to 15-8 and forced Providence to call a timeout.
- Shaliyah Rhoden recorded a block to bring the score to 20-13.
- The Friars went on a 6-2 run to narrow St. John's lead to 22-19.
- St. John's maintained its lead and won the set 25-20.
