WASHINGTON D.C. -Â The Providence College volleyball team (8-7, 0-4 BIG EAST) was defeated by Georgetown University (10-5, 2-2 BIG EAST) in four sets (3-1) in BIG EAST action on Saturday, Oct. 3.

FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS:Â The Hoyas took set one, 25-17.Â
- The teams were knotted, 9-9, early in the set.
- The Hoyas went on a 10-point run to take a 19-10 lead, forcing the Friars to call a timeout.Â
- The Friars battled to close the gap, but the Hoyas maintained the lead to take the set, 25-17.Â
- Junior Sophia Adkins led the Friars' attack with three kills.Â
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS:Â Georgetown took set two, 25-22.
- The Friars came out swinging with three-straight kills to take an early 3-0 lead.
- Both teams traded points and were deadlocked, 13-13.
- The Hoyas took a 19-16 lead, and the Friars took their first timeout.
- Sophomore Tori Otter (Rogers, Ark.) got the Friars within one (21-22) with her 10th kill of the match.Â
- Georgetown edged out the Friars and won the set, 25-22.Â
- The Friars posted a .317 attack percentage compared to the Hoyas' .222.  Â
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS:Â Providence took set three, 25-22, to force a fourth set.Â
- The Friars and Hoyas were even, 11-11, early in the set.
- Providence pulled ahead for the first lead of the set, 20-19.Â
- The teams traded leads late before the Friars pulled ahead, 22-21, and forced a Georgetown timeout.Â
- The Friars held onto the lead and won the set, 25-22.Â
- Providence notched a match high 8.0 team blocks in the set.Â
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS:Â The Hoyas took set four 25-14 and won the match 3-1.Â
- The Hoyas took an early 4-0 lead and the Friars called a timeout.Â
- Georgetown led wire-to-wire to win the set, 25-14, and closed out the match. Â
- Senior Miller McDonald led the set in assists with six.Â
MATCH NOTES:
- Otter notched a career-high 15 kills.
- McDonald led the team with 22 assists.Â
- The Friars finished the match with a total of 11.0 team blocks.Â
WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars return to action at home next weekend, Oct. 9th at 5:00 p.m. (ET) to face Seton Hall University in Alumni Hall.Â
