NEW YORK, N.Y. – Providence College men's lacrosse players
Michael Chabra (Reading, Mass.) and
Richie Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass.) earned BIG EAST weekly honor recognition on Monday, May 1, following the team's 12-11 overtime victory over St. John's that allowed Providence to clinch the No. 4 seed in the BIG EAST Championships. Chabra was named Midfielder of the Week, while Joseph earned Freshman of the Week.
Chabra tallied a team-high five points on five goals, scoring in each quarter of regulation against St. John's. He gave the Friars the 11-10 lead in the final frame, which they were able to hold until the last minute when St. John's forced overtime. Chabra's five goals matched his career-high, which he set a year prior against the Red Storm. The junior currently leads the team in goals, scoring 34 this season.
Joseph registered four points against St. John's, notching one goal and three assists. All of Joseph's points came in the second quarter. He posted three assists, helping Chabra and
Matt Grillo combine for three goals, before converting on a man-up attempt to bring the game to a 6-6 tie.
WHAT'S NEXT… The Friars will travel to Milwaukee, Wis. to face first-seeded Georgetown on Thursday, May 4 at 6:30 p.m. (ET) in the BIG EAST Semifinals. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
