BOSTON, Mass. – The Providence College men's and women's track teams competed in the first day of the IC4A/ECAC championships on Saturday, March 4 at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center in Boston, Mass. Six Friars won their heats to automatically qualify for the finals that will take place tomorrow, March 5.
Marcelo Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) led the Friar men with a first place finish in the 5,000 meters with a time of 13:57.55.
David McGlynn (Waterford, Ireland) followed in second place with a time of 14:05.06.
Shane Coffey (Naas, Ireland) placed seventh in 14:13.24.
Angus White (New Plymouth, New Zealand) won his heat in the mile with a time of 4:05.71 to automatically qualify for tomorrow's finals.
William Rainey (San Jose, Calif.) ran a 49.90 in the 400-meter preliminaries.
Josh Lewin (West Chester, Pa.) won his heat in the 800-meter preliminaries with a time of 1:51.12, earning an automatic qualification for the finals.
Tim Dolan (Cinnaminson, N.J.) followed with a 1:53.78 time.
Zane Powell (Auckland, New Zealand) ran a 2:25.51 in the 1,000-meter preliminaries to win his heat and automatically qualify for the finals tomorrow.
On the women's side,
Orla O'Connor (Waterford, Ireland) was the runner-up in the 5,000-meters with a time of 16:37.77.
Tessa Hunt (Wellington, New Zealand) qualified for the mile finals with a preliminary time of 4:53.08.
Meg Hughes (Rochester, Mass.) ran a personal best of 56.36 in the 400-meter preliminaries. Following Hughes was
Niamh Gowing (Dublin, Ireland) with a time of 56.85.
In the 800-meter preliminaries,
Alex O'Neill (Ennis, Ireland.) won her heat in a time of 2:08.24 to automatically qualify for the finals tomorrow.
Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) and
Halle Atkinson (Franklin, Mass.) both won their heats in the 1,000-meters with personal records of 2:45.18 and 2:49.25, respectively. May and Atkinson automatically qualified for the finals tomorrow.
Charlotte Cousins (Madbury, N.H.) and
Nicole Borowiec (Morristown, N.J.) competed in the 60-meter hurdles. Cousins finished in 9.23 followed by Borowiec in 9.46.
The Friars will return for the final day of the IC4A/ECAC Championships tomorrow, Sunday, March 5.
