BOSTON, Mass
. – The Providence College women's hockey team was selected to finish fourth in the Hockey East Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the league on Tuesday, Sept. 13.
The Friars, who received 61 points, were picked to finish behind Northeastern (90), Vermont (79) and Boston College (76). The Huskies, who won the 2022 Hockey East Tournament, received nine first place votes.
Rounding out the poll was Boston University (59), UConn (53), Maine (39), New Hampshire (38), Merrimack (26) and Holy Cross (19).
Providence finished last year's schedule with a 16-14-6 record, including a 12-12-3 mark in the Hockey East.
Caroline Peterson (East Falmouth, Mass.) returns for a fifth year as the 2021-22 team's leading scorer, with 11 goals and six assists.
Lindsay Bochna (Toronto, Canada) returns for her junior year having earned nine goals and 10 assists during the 2021-22 season. In goal,
Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) returns for a graduate year. Last season, she posted a 1.73 goals-against average and .945 save percentage for the 2021-22 season.
The Friars open the 2022-23 season at home against St. Lawrence University on Friday, Sept. 23 at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 24 at 3:00 p.m. Providence opens Hockey East play with a home-and-home series against Holy Cross (Oct. 14-15).
