QUEENS, N.Y.- The Providence College men's lacrosse team defeated the St. John's Red Storm, 20-14, on Saturday, April 30 in Queens, N.Y.
Matt Grillo led the Friars with seven points on six goals and one assist. Seven different Friars scored in the victory. The Friars move to 6-8 overall, 1-4 in BIG EAST play. The Red Storm drop to 2-12 overall, 0-5 in BIG EAST play.
First Quarter:
-St. John's scored the first goal 2:30 into play to grab a 1-0 lead.

Mike O'Grady responded at 10:47 to tie things up 1-1, with his first goal of the season. O'Grady was assisted by
Chris Cusolito on the play.

Michael Chabra followed up O'Grady's goal with his own, 2-1, to grab the lead for Providence at 10:02.
-The Red Storm went on a three-goal streak to take a 4-2 lead before Chabra scored his second of the outing at 5:11 to bring the Friars within one, 4-3.
-St. John's scored once more, 5-3, before Providence went on a four-goal streak with goals from two goals from Chabra and one each from Grillo and
Quinn McConnaughey to give the Friars 7-5 lead heading into the second quarter.
Second Quarter:
-
Bryce Kirkwood pushed the Friars' lead to three with his first career goal at the 12:20 mark, 8-5.
-St. John's followed Kirkwood's goal with a four-goal streak of their own to take a one-point lead, 9-8.
-The Friars netted three back-to-back goals, two being from Grillo and one from Cusolito to steal to lead back from the Red Storm, 11-9.
-The Red Storm scored one more, 11-10, before Grillo closed out the first half with his fourth goal of the day, 12-10, with just 15 seconds remaining in the quarter.
Third Quarter:
-Cusolito started the scoring for the Friars under a minute into the half. His goal pushed the Friars lead to three, 13-10.
-St. John's found the back of the net, 13-11, before the Friars got on a roll with another back-to-back four goals. Kirkwood scored two more, earning his first career hat trick, while Grillo and Horrigan each added one, 17-11.
-The Red Storm closed out the quarter with two goals, 17-13.
Fourth Quarter:
-Grillo opened the scoring in the fourth, 18-13, with 6:28 on his sixth goal.
-Chabra followed up at 5:19 with his fifth goal of the day, 19-13, before Kirkwood notched his fourth goal of the outing, 20-13, with 1:10 remaining in play.
-St. John's found the back of the net with 40 seconds remaining to wrap things up, 20-14.
Game Notes:
-Seven different Friars scored against the Red Storm.
-Providence scored a season-best 20 goals.
-Grillo paced the Friars with seven points on six goals and one assist. This is Grillo's seventh hat-trick of the season.
-Chabra scored five goals on the day. This marks his third hat-trick of the season.
-Kirkwood chipped in with four goals. Kirkwood had a break-through performance, earning both first career goal and first career hat-trick in the outing.

Ryan Bell led the team in assists (six).
-McConnaughey dominated the 'X', going 23-30 at face-off and picked up a team-best 13 groundballs.
-The Friars close out the regular season with a 6-8 record and a 1-4 mark in the BIG EAST.
