The Friars continue Hockey East play against Merrimack College on Tuesday, Feb. 15. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in North Andover, Mass.
Scouting the Friars
The Friars are currently 13-13-5 overall and 10-12-2 in Hockey East. This past weekend, the Friars faced off against the UConn Huskies in a home-and-home series. The Friars defeated the Huskies, 2-1, on Friday before falling at home the following day, 0-2.
On Friday, the Friars traveled to Storrs, Conn.
Lindsay Bochna (Toronto, Ontario) and
Ashley Clark (North Weymouth, Mass.) both scored for the Friars with Bochna tallying her ninth goal of the season.
Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) recorded 29 saves during the contest while the Friars outshot the Huskies, 31-30.
Saturday the Friars hosted UConn in Schneider Arena but were unable to get on the board as they were blanked, 0-2. Abstreiter recorded 35 saves for a .972 save percentage.
Bochna and
Hayley Lunny (Bedford, N.Y.) lead the charge offensively for the Friars, with 18 points apiece.
Caroline Peterson (East Falmouth, Mass.) is the team leader in goals (ten) and has 15 total points. Providence has 20 different players in the line-up with at least a point. Eighteen different players have posted assists, while seventeen players have found the back of the net.
Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) has made 22 starts in net. She holds a .941 save percentage and a 1.86 goals against average. The netminder has made 657 total saves and has recorded nine wins with two shutouts.
Earlier This Season Against Merrimack
The Friars and Warriors have met twice this season on Nov. 30 and Feb. 8. In the teams first meeting Providence prevailed, 3-0. In the second, the Friars also defeated the Warriors 4-3.
Scouting the Warriors
Merrimack College is 5-23-1 overall and 4-19-1 in Hockey East play. The Warriors are currently ranked eighth in the Hockey East. Last weekend, Merrimack fell to the Boston College Eagles twice, 4-6 then 2-3.
Who to Watch
Merrimack's top two scorers are Teghan Inglis and Katie Kaufman are leading the team in points, with 14 each. Both Inglis and Kaufman have tallied ten goals and four assists. Other top scorers include Ally Qualley and Courtney Maud who have 12 points each.
Emma Gorski has appeared in net for Merrimack this season. Gorski holds a 3.33 goals against average and .892 save percentage.
