BOSTON, MASS. - The Providence College women's track and field team competed at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University on Friday, Feb. 11.
A team of
Taylor Newman (Old Tappan, N.J.),
Niamh Gowing (Dublin, Ire.),
Delaney Mick (Hopkinton, Mass.) and
Meg Hughes (Rochester, Mass.) raced for the Friars in the 4x400 meters. The group placed first in their heat and 10
th overall in a field of 45. Their time of 3:53.24 is a new Providence College record for the indoor 4 x 400 m.
In the 800 meter,
Halle Atkinson (Franklin, Mass.) and
Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) both set personal records. Atkinson placed first in her heat and 17
th overall in 2:09.05 while May also finished first in her heat with a 21
st overall finish in 2:10.74.
Alex O'Neill (Ennis, Ire.) and
Tessa Hunt (Wellington, New Zealand) also competed for Providence in the event. O'Neill finished 34
th in a time of 2:12.43 and Hunt finished 53
rd (2:14.53) with a first-place finish in her section.
Laura Mooney (Cappincur, Ire.) set a personal best in the 3,000 meter with a 9:18.83 finish time and an eleventh overall finish.
Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Canada) also represented the Friars in the event and finished 19
th in 9:26.75. In their heat, Mooney and Tuck placed second and seventh, respectively.
Other Notable Performances:
Hawa Grear (Providence, R.I.) and
Emme Conan (Skaneateles, N.Y.) both ran personal bests in the 200 meter in times of 26.08 and 26.33, respectively.
Senior
Bridget Mitchell competed in the 1,000 meter, finishing in a time of 2:58.41 for a fifth-place finish in her heat and 20
th overall in a field of 63.
The Friar men are set to race in day two of the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 12.
