Maeve O’Neill Competes In 800-Meter Semifinals At 2026 World Athletics Indoor Championships

O’Neill finished in 2:02.46 in her first World Championships semifinals appearance.

KUJAWY POMORZE, Poland – Providence College junior Maeve O'Neill (Cork, Ireland) competed in the 800-meter semifinals for Ireland at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26 in Toruń, Kujawy Pomorze, Poland on Saturday, March 21. O'Neill finished the semifinals in 2:02.46 in her first World Championships appearance.

The junior wraps up her indoor track season with Second Team All-America honors in the 800 meters at the 2026 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. She also broke her own indoor record in the 800 meters, clocking 2:00.33. The mark ranks ninth all-time in NCAA indoor history and set the Irish senior record. O'Neill earned two All-BIG EAST honors after winning BIG EAST titles in both the 800 meters and 4x800-meter relay at the BIG EAST Championships. She went on to receive the BIG EAST Most Outstanding Track Performer award.
 
O'Neill became the first Friar to compete in the World Championships since Ben Connor in 2019 in Doha. She is also the first Friar to compete in the 800 meters at the World Championships.
