PROVIDENCE, R.I. –
Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) of the Providence College women's hockey team was named Hockey East Goaltender of the Week on Monday, Oct.17 for the second week in a row.
Over the weekend, Abstreiter recorded two more shutouts, with a total of 25 saves. On Friday Oct. 14, Abstreiter had 11 saves to shutout Holy Cross 4-0. The following day (Oct.15), Abstreiter had 14 saves against the Crusaders to give the Friars a 4-0 shutout. The Friars now have four-consecutive shutouts on the season.
The last time the Friars' recorded four-straight shutouts was during the 2000-01 season when three Friar goalies–Amy Quinlan, Crystal Nicholas, Brigid Keady– shared the net for four games. No other Friar team has recorded four in a row prior to the 2000-01 stretch, making Abstreiter the first goalie in program history to tally four-consecutive shutouts.
The Friars travel to Durham, New Hampshire on Friday, Oct.21 to play UNH. Puck drops at 2:00 p.m.
