PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College freshmen point guard
Kylee Sheppard (Cincinnati, Ohio) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Jan. 24. It marked the first league honor of her career with the Friars.
In a 1-1 week for the Friars, Sheppard averaged 16.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. She played a key role in the Friars' 66-58 overtime victory on the road against Georgetown on Jan. 23, scoring a game-high 21 points. Seven of her 21 points came during the overtime session, including a 5-6 performance from the charity stripe in the final 40-seconds of play. It marked Providence's first victory at McDonough Arena since 1996, snapping a 16-game winless streak on the Hoyas home court.
Sheppard has played nine games for Providence, since returning from injury, including eight appearances in the starting line-up. She is second on the team in scoring (12.2 ppg) and assists (2.4 apg) and leads the Friars with 2.0 steals per contest, while also contributing 4.0 rebounds per game. Sheppard is shooting a solid 47.6-percent from the field (39-82), including a 41-percent clip from beyond the arc (13-32).
Providence (9-9, 4-5 BIG EAST) returns to action on Friday, Jan. 28 against Creighton at DJ Sokol Arena in Omaha, Neb.
