NEW ORLEANS, La.- The U.S. Track & Field And Cross Country Coaches Association released its academic awards Thursday, July 22. The Providence College men's and women's track programs each earned 2021 USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Academic Team Awards. Six Friars also were recognized individually as USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honorees.
In order to be in considered, a program must have at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA. The men's track & field program posted a 3.47 team GPA and the women's program checked in with a 3.56 team GPA.
Individually, graduate student
AJ Ernst (Marblehead, Mass.) and senior
Marcelo Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) each claimed USTFCCCA All-Academic Team accolades as members of the Providence College men's track & field team.
The Providence College women's track & field team boasted four honorees, graduate student
Abbey Wheeler (Elmira, N.Y.), senior
Maria Coffin (Annapolis, Md.) and sophomores
Orla O'Connor (Waterford, Ireland) and
Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Canada).
To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:
