PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Four members of the Providence College men's lacrosse team were featured on the 2021 Division I NEILA All-New England Second Team. The list of Friars includes midfielders
Dan Axelson (Cohasset, Mass.) and
Ryan Nawrocki (Smithtown, N.Y.), defenseman
Emmett Jennings (Fair Haven, N.J.) and short-stick defensive midfielder
Nick Shaw (Canton, Mass.).
Axelson, a 2021 All-BIG EAST Second-Team selection, played in all 13 games for the Friars, with 12 appearances in the starting line-up. He finished third on the team in points (28), having recorded a career-high 21 goals and seven assists. Five of his 21 goals were scored during man-up opportunities. Axelson also notched three hat-tricks on the year against Bryant (Feb. 13), St. John's (Feb. 21) and Denver (Mar. 27). He added seven groundballs and one caused turnover.
Jennings, who helped to anchor the Friars' defensive unit, earned All-BIG EAST Second-Team recognition at the conclusion of the 2021 season. He started all 13 games and led the team in caused turnovers (12) and ranked third in groundballs (33). Jennings picked up a season-high five groundballs against Bryant on Feb. 13.
Nawrocki, a 2021 All-BIG EAST Second-Team honoree, started all 13 games for Providence. He led the team in points (33) and assists (21), with both totals marking single-season career highs. Nawrocki also added 12 goals, nine groundballs and one caused turnover. He tallied the game-winning goal against St. John's on Feb. 21, finishing the game with a career-high six points overall on two goals and four assists.
Shaw appeared in all 13 games for the Friars and finished the year ranked second among his teammates in groundballs, with 35. He collected a single-game career high of seven groundballs against Marquette on April 17. Shaw also registered seven points during the 2021 season on four goals and three assists and caused three turnovers.
