Men’s Lacrosse Falls To #4/#4 Georgetown, 14-9

Toby Burgdorf recorded a career-high in saves (20).

Providence, R.I.- The Providence College men's lacrosse team fell to the #4/#4 Georgetown Hoyas, 14-9, on Saturday, March 20 at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. The Friars fall to 3-4 overall, 2-3 in BIG EAST play. The Hoyas improve to 5-1 overall, 4-1 in BIG EAST play.
 
First Quarter:
-The Friars struck first as Tim Hinrichs (Amherst, N.H.) found Ryan Zimmerman (Syracuse, N.Y.) in the middle for the first goal of the game (1-0).
-Georgetown's Jake Carraway scored with 7:40 remaining to tie the game, 1-1.
-Matt Grillo (Setauket, N.Y.) scored to retake the lead for Providence at 6:27 (2-1).
-Georgetown would score two straight goals to end the quarter and lead, 3-2 after one.
-Toby Burgdorf (Westfield, N.J.) had five saves in the quarter.
 
Second Quarter:
-Hinrichs juked his defender and scored the equalizer with 11:56 left (3-3).
-Georgetown's Colin Munro scored to retake the lead for the Hoyas, 4-3.
-Evan McGreen (Narragansett, R.I.) took the ball from midfield for a goal to tie the game (4-4).
-Georgetown scored two goals to conclude the quarter. The Hoyas led 6-4 at the half.
 
Third Quarter:
 -In a man-up opportunity, Grillo found Axelson to bring the game back within one. The Friars trailed, 6-5.
-The Hoyas scored two-straight goals to push the lead to three.
-Ryan Nawrocki (Smithtown, N.Y) spun off of his defender and scored a goal for Providence. The Hoyas led, 8-6.
-Georgetown scored one more goal before the quarter ended. The Hoyas led, 9-6, after three quarters.
 
Fourth Quarter:
 -The Hoyas scored three-straight to begin the fourth, pushing their lead to five (12-7).
-McGreen tallied his second goal of the day with 9:06 remaining (12-8).
- In a man-up opportunity, the Hoyas scored with 4:56 left. Georgetown led, 13-8.
-Hinrichs recorded his second goal of the game with 3:27 remaining. The Hoyas were ahead, 13-9.
-Georgetown added one more goal prior to the conclusion of the game. The Hoyas won, 14-9.
Game Notes:
-Burgdorf tallied a career-high 20 saves. Burgdorf had a .606 save percentage and picked up a groundball.
- Grillo and Hinrichs led the Friars in points (three) with two goals and one assist each.
-Grant Latimer (Topsfield, Mass.) picked up three groundballs and caused two turnovers.
