DENVER, COLO.- The Providence College men's lacrosse team fell to #12 Denver, 23-10, on Saturday, Feb. 27 at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium in Denver, Colo. Providence dropped to 1-2 overall (1-1 BIG EAST) and Denver improved to 4-2 overall (2-0 BIG EAST).
First Quarter:
-After the Pioneers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead,
Tim Hinrichs (Amherst, N.H.) slid by his defender and put the ball past Denver's Jack Thompson to put Providence on the board.
-Denver scored five-straight to end the quarter and lead to gain an 8-1 advantage.
Second Quarter:
-
Matt Grillo (Setauket, N.Y.) found the back of the net with 9:06 remaining in the quarter. The Pioneers were leading 11-2.
-Less than a minute later, Hinrichs found
Dan Axelson (Cohasset, Mass.) for a goal at the 8:29 mark to make the score, 11-3.
-Grillo scored his second goal of the quarter with 3:43 remaining. Denver led, 12-4.
-The Pioneers scored five-straight to conclude the quarter. Denver led, 17-4, at the half.
Third Quarter:
-
Chris Cusolito (Melrose, Mass.) tallied his first goal in a Friars uniform at 14:28 in the third quarter. Denver held a 18-5 lead.
-Denver scored the final three goals in quarter to lead 21-5 after three.
Fourth Quarter:
-After Denver's Logan Devereaux scored the opening goal of the quarter,
Ryan Zimmerman (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored two goals in a span of 14 seconds. The Pioneers led the Friars, 22-7.

Michael Chabra (Reading, Mass.) took an
Owen Martinson (Milton, Mass.) feed and found the back of the net with 4:10 left to play. It marked Chabra's first-career goal. Denver led, 22-8.

Ryan Mechler (Marlborough, Mass.) scored a fourth-straight goal for the Friars with 2:52 remaining, marking Mechler's first career goal.
-Chabra scored his second goal of the quarter with 20-seconds remaining.
-Providence outscored Denver, 5-2, in the final quarter.
-Denver won the game, 23-10.
Game Notes:
-Grillo kept his goal streak alive after scoring two goals against the Pioneers. The junior has now scored a goal in 16-straight games. He has 44 goals in that span. Prior to this contest, Grillo was one of 16 players in the nation to have a goal streak of 15 games or more.
-Three different Friars – Chabra, Cusolito, Mechler – scored their first goals in a Friars uniform against the Pioneers.
